| If i may ask for your kind assistance on this subject. I am looking for info regarding the monthly fighter production achieved (for each of MS-406, D-520, MB-151/152/55, VG-33, Potez-630/31 etc. types) in 1939-40, and also planned fighter production (if France would not have fallen) by month and type into 1941. I know the plans called for 500 fighters a month by that time. I also know that the numbers roughly ordered (referring to the types that would have been built past june 1940) are 2320 D-520, 400 MB-155, 700 VG-33, and i'm sure i read somewhere that the panned monthly production of D-520 would rise to 250 a month, perhaps from january 1941.
I also know exactly in which book this info would be found, namely Docavia's work "L'Aviation de Chasse Française, 1918-1940", but unfortunately i don't have it and probably can't get it in the near future. I would really appreciate if someone would be willing to send me some scans of the relevant pages/tables, or just post quick summary of the info contained there. Ii would be very curious to see when they were panning to put into production and what numbers were they planning for types like Potez-671 (and other heavy fighters?), D-551/552, VG-36/39 and variants, Bloch MB-157, perhaps Allison and/or Merlin powered Dewoitines or VGs, and perhaps Wright R-1820, PW R-1830 and Wright R-2600 powered fighters (if there were any actually planned to be built? I did read about Bloch MB-153 and MB-154 versions with american engines)
A few numbers about planned american fighters deliveries (H-81, H-86, G-36 and perhaps other types?), and finally, a few numbers regarding fighters (by type) counted in inventory after the armistice would be much appreciated too.
Thank you very much for any input! |

| Hi Whiffer, Apparently, you know much more than us about French planes! Unfortunately, this site is rather dedicated to ground machines ; but may be, somebody will be specialist enough to answer even about planes. Did you contact official French sites like ECPAD from Ministry of Defense? Good luck, Rhonbuc |

| Hi Rhonbuc, - Citation :
- Apparently, you know much more than us about French planes!
I am sure that is not the case, as i've read some very interesting posts about Armee de l'Air aircraft in this section. I'm sure the are very well informed aviation experts here. No i haven't got in touch with french MOD, somehow i think i'd get some funny looks, me being a foreign guy and asking them about aircraft production in 1940 etc. I'm not a writer or anything like that , but just want to expand my knowledge on the french aviation of 1940. |

| hello I am not at all specialist of our Armée de l'Air but I am sure that ATF40 has some Air and Naval connaisseurs unfortunately I don't have the book you want maybe you have already that but for a post-Armistice inventory there is one here in the "Annexe" https://histoiremesure.revues.org/4040 also figures taken from Ehrengardt & Shores inventory Armée de l'Air planes by the 20th july 1940 Type | | Bloch 152 | 269 | Curtiss H75 | 190 | Dewoitine 520 | 325 | Morane 406 | 653 | Potez 631 | 125 | Breguet 693 | 53 | Douglas DB7 | 65 | LeO 451 | 318 | Martin 167 F | 192 | Bloch 174-175 | 47 | Potez 63-11 | 406 | | 2643 |
maybe you know this author and book, a serie of 3 at Economica editor https://atf40.1fr1.net/t1885-l-armee-de-l-air-dans-la-tourmente-patrick-faconunfortunately even if there is a whole chapter 6 about the "battle of the production" I didn't find any detailed datas about monthly production by type quand débutent les hostilités les retards du plan V atteignent environ cinq mois par rapport aux sorties prévues. | Loic Lilian, thank you very much for the numbers and interesting links you have posted, they are a very good start! Regarding the aircraft production for June 1940, at least until the armistice, i'm sure i have read that figure somewhere, i'll have to look again. |

| As expected the info i would have is marginal at best. The figure i have is very old, June "production" is stated as 573 (and the figueres for the other months vary from the info posted above, which is undoubtedly much more accurate) but it is really aircraft that were built and marked as delivered as far as i can make out, INCLUDING american aircraft that were delivered from US/assembled, and probably do not includes finished aircraft still at the factories but not delivered yet. I'm sure modern french historians have a much better idea of what the actual June production was. I can only guesstimate that until the armistice at least 450, maybe even 500 to 600 aicraft have been built.
Also, as far as i can make out inded there were MORE modern aircraft on strength or about to be delievered to the Armee de l'Air at the armistice than on May 10! Considering the losses already inflicted on the Luftwaffe and it's diminished stregth (i seem to recall reading that either it's strength has been rediced by 30% or TO 30%), some can only imagine if the political decision to ask for armistice would not have been taken and the battle would have continued, 2 more weeks of that and quite likely Luftwaffe would have lost the air superiority to those 2600 modern french aircraft if they were thrown into battle in alast ditch effort, despite all the problems the french pilots and ground crew and country as a whole were facing (i also seem to have read recently that by armistice the avilability of existing french aircraft was also just 30%, any confirmation of that?) |
